What’s better than FINALLY making it to another Colorado gem of a city? Having our best friends there to greet us and plan an EPIC weekend.
Itinerary Highlights:
- Distance from Denver: ~6 hour drive
- Time of Year: We absolutely loved visiting during the leaf peepin’ fall BUT it sounds like there’s really no wrong time to visit. Summers filled with lake life and hikes?Yes please. Winters spent at Purgatory ski resort? Definitely going back!
- Three Trip Highlights: the BEST crew (all days), SUPS on Lake Nighthorse (Day 1), Hot Springs (Day 2)
Our 3-Day Full Itinerary (skimmed)
Day 1: SUPs, bikes and a little competition!
- Lazy morning with breakfast at Ross Cabin.
- Ladies headed to Lake Nighthorse Reservoir for a morning SUP. It was such a beautiful morning, and the lake was completely calm. We were a little late in the year, but word on the street is that there is a Total Wipeout-like setup that runs June through first week of September.
- Rented e-bikes at Go Play Durango in town.
- Stopped at Zia Taqueria for a quick bite.
- Biked up along rim road to see the city views from Fort Lewis College.
- Biked down, with a stop at Santa Rita Park for some sand volleyball.
- Back to the house to get ready, with a dinner out on the town at Primi Pasta & Wine Bar.
- Ended the night with Yaniv!

Day 2: Hikes and Hot Springs
- Another lazy morning at Ross Cabin.
- Packed up and drove about an hour towards Silverton for a hike and leaf peepin’ at Little Molas and Molas Lakes. The colors were AMAZING this time of year.
- Lunch at James Ranch Grill. This was such a cute spot! Great food and all of the main ingredients are sourced directly from James Ranch. After lunch, we stopped by to pet the goats and picked up some meat and cheese snacks on the way out.
- Back to Ross Cabin for some down time and naps.
- The perfect end to the night at Durango Hot Springs!! These hot springs were so beautiful, we just wished we were there on a Tuesday or Thursday for the live music.

Day 3: Downtown Durango
- Morning neighborhood walk before the crew woke up.
- SkySteps were next! 500 steps high, this was the cutest stairway that started in a little downtown neighborhood and went up to Fort Lewis College. We did this a few times to get the blood pumping.
- Second breakfast was up next at 11th Street Station. This was a great little grouping of food trucks – we treated ourselves to a little acaí, juice, and coffee. It sounds like there is a great event calendar of live music that goes down throughout the year!
- Checked out the ArtRoom Collective at the Smiley. This was essentially a working studio gallery with a bunch of different artists. Some were working, and some just had their card out – everything for purchase was on the venmo honor code.
- Walked around Main Ave. in downtown Durango and popped in some cute shops
- Picked up some sandwich wraps at RGP’s Flame Grilled Wraps – probably some of the best wraps we’ve ever had!!
- We took our sandwiches to Ska Brewing Co (they allow outside food..phew!) and grabbed some drinks
- Said goodbye to beautiful Durango and chased the rainbow all the way home
