Day 12: It’s a Balance Off

Now in a routine, we woke up for a morning beach walk and breakfast. In addition to our fruit, granola, honey, and croissants, we added a veggie omelet. With sand between our toes, morning sunshine, and yummy food – this was certainly another great start to the day.

After breakfast, we walked to large set of 2 wooden swings, that depending on the tide, were either bobbing with the waves or hanging freely above them. This early in the day, they were bobbing. Not to be outdone by the ocean, we decided to stand on the swings, instead of sit in the water. Standing on the swings, the water was just below our kneecaps. I wonder how I can turn this into a game/competition, thought Brian, and a balance-off it was. Facing each other on independent swings, we counted 3, 2, 1 go! At that point we both had to let go of any extra support and just balance on the submerged swings. It was great fun. Despite Anna’s graceful appearance, she fell first and often. She won most of the other games this trip, so Brian showed no mercy.

Nearly crippled in defeat, Anna decided it was time to get ready for the next event. 90 minute couples massage! Anna was in heaven. Brian was a bit anxious by the end – he loves to sit still.

Before sunset, we boarded one of the local fishing boats, called a Dhow boat. It has been used for (apparently) thousands of years by local fishermen. Wooden frame, simple wooden mast that looked to be a skinny tree trunk and patched up sail, we were off. The boat sailed smooth and quicker than anticipated. Brian caught sight of some local footie on the beach as we were sailing…an agenda started to form for our next and final night.

We met new friends before dinner. More honeymooners! We shared similar stories of our last few days both in Cape Town and on safari. Dinner was delicious and finished with a toffee brownie and with melted caramel ice cream. Good enough to write home about.
