Day 9: Get to da Choppa

With our bags fully packed, we were lucky enough to sneak in 1 more morning drive. We checked on the leopard from the night before. It was still in the tree, with two hungry hyenas salivating below. After a few minutes, the leopard leapt down from the tree and made its way to the river for a drink. It gave the hyenas a death stare and a good look at its sharp teeth, as if to say, ‘don’t even think about going after my kill, or you will be next’.

We then met our bush Uber near the river. They had our bags and a packed breakfast! They took us 20 minutes to the airport where our pilot came to meet us and we boarded a single prop Cessna. It was cool to fly fairly close to the ground to watch for elephants. From the Kruger airport, we took a normal jet plane to Mozambique. Then, our final ride – a choppa to the island of Benguerra!

We were welcomed to our new home with some local singing and dancing. Lunch was quickly brought to our room while we unpacked and got settled. We cracked open the congratulatory sparkling rosé, and headed down to the beach for sunset.

Brian happened to stumble upon the only TV at the resort, conveniently just in time for the Liverpool Arsenal kick-off. Pretty solid game, honestly both teams should have scored more goals. Anna sure was boisterous during the game. Gotta keep an eye on that one.

Dinner was set at the beach, with candlelight and soft lapping waves. Our adventure guide stopped by our table to discuss the activities for the week. Snorkling, sunset sail, and private picnics to come!
