Day 4: Grape Town

After 8 courses the night before, jogging 8 miles along the coast seemed the only plausible option to kick off the morning. The combination of mist, sunrise, and crashing ocean waves made for a very enjoyable run. Breakfast was like the day before, with the addition of a bakery basket! We may have asked for a two.

Charlie scooped us at 9am and we headed to Stellenbosch. According to local and world legend, Stellenbosch is to South Africa what Napa is to the United States. Our first stop was a traditional winery to wet our palettes. We sipped at a charming patio next to a large square of green grass, tall trees, and birdsong. Our second stop was a modern winery, Tokara. Honestly, to Brian the wine all tasted the same, but the views from Tokara were beyond impressive. Plus, we added on an olive oil tasting. Turns out they don’t encourage drinking the olive oil, so bread was needed, and welcomed.

Graffe was the 3rd stop on the tour. Another very modern winery that dabbled in fine food. With a sprawling view of mountains and vineyards, a sleek two leopard statue guarding us, and delicious cuisine, it was quite the lunch. Our venture home was filled with discussion of culture, sports, and our upcoming safari. Charlie had worked in the bush BC (before children) and had us on the edges of our seat.

Anna was keen on spending our last night in Cape Town at our hotel, taking advantage of the daily gin cart and canapés for sunset. It was hands down the best sunset we had all weekend, the colors only got better as we made our way to dinner on the balcony.

We packed our bags. Well, Brian packed his. Anna packed hers, and then added to his. We drifted to sleep with fond thoughts of Cape Town and excitement about out next adventure! Tengile. Pronounced Ten-geeh-lay. Safari here we come!
